Usage Notes
- Liechtenstein is divided into 11 municipalities (Gemeinden)
- All codes follow the format 'LI-' followed by a two-digit number (01-11)
- Vaduz (LI-11) is the capital and seat of national government
- The municipalities are the smallest administrative units in Liechtenstein
- German is the official language, and municipality names are the same in both German and English
Administrative Structure
- Each municipality (Gemeinde) is a self-governing entity
- Municipalities have their own elected councils and mayors
- Vaduz, while the capital, is not the largest municipality (Schaan is)
- The municipalities vary significantly in size and population
- All municipalities are part of the unified legal and administrative system of the principality
Data Usage
- When specifying locations in Liechtenstein in your API requests, please use these exact codes
- Municipality codes are sequential from LI-01 to LI-11
- The codes are standardized and used consistently across all administrative purposes
- No subdivisions exist below the municipality level for addressing purposes
Note: Liechtenstein's small size means that municipal divisions are sufficient for most addressing needs, without requiring further subdivision.
