Switzerland State Codes

When dealing with addresses or locations in Switzerland, our API uses the following state codes. These codes are based on the ISO 3166-2:CH standard for Switzerland's cantons (German: Kantone, French: Cantons, Italian: Cantoni, Romansh: Chantuns).

Usage Notes

  • Switzerland is divided into 26 cantons (Kantone/Cantons/Cantoni)
  • All codes follow the format 'CH-' followed by two letters
  • Cantons are the member states of the Swiss Confederation
  • Switzerland has four national languages, and cantons may be officially monolingual or multilingual
  • Canton names may differ across languages, but the codes remain consistent

  • When specifying locations in Switzerland in your API requests, please use these exact codes
  • Canton codes are standardized and used consistently across all administrative purposes
  • Consider the primary language of the canton when displaying canton names
  • For multilingual cantons, consider the specific region within the canton

Note: While cantons may have different official names in different languages, the two-letter codes are language-independent and universally recognized within Switzerland.
