Usage Notes

  • The Netherlands is divided into 12 provinces (provincies)
  • All codes follow the format 'NL-' followed by two letters
  • Notable regions:
    • Noord-Holland (NL-NH) contains Amsterdam
    • Zuid-Holland (NL-ZH) contains The Hague (seat of government)
    • Utrecht (NL-UT) contains the city of Utrecht
  • Friesland also has an official Frisian name: Fryslân
  • When specifying locations in the Netherlands in your API requests, please use these exact codes for the province
