Usage Notes
- South Korea is divided into several types of administrative divisions:
- 1 Special City (특별시, teukbyeolsi)
- 6 Metropolitan Cities (광역시, gwangyeoksi)
- 8 Provinces (도, do)
- 1 Special Self-Governing Province (특별자치도, teukbyeoljachido)
- 1 Special Self-Governing City (특별자치시, teukbyeoljachisi)
- All codes follow the format 'KR-' followed by two digits
- Notable regions:
- Seoul (KR-11) is the capital and largest city
- Sejong (KR-50) is the administrative capital
- Jeju (KR-49) is an island province with special autonomous status
