Usage Notes

  • Japan is divided into 47 prefectures (todofuken)
  • All codes follow the format 'JP-' followed by a two-digit number
  • Tokyo (JP-13) is officially a metropolitan prefecture (to)
  • Hokkaido (JP-01) is officially a territory (do)
  • Osaka (JP-27) and Kyoto (JP-26) are officially urban prefectures (fu)
  • The remaining 43 are standard prefectures (ken)
  • When specifying locations in Japan in your API requests, please use these exact codes for the prefecture
